Former Rangers trialist Yanis Bensaber has lifted the lid on his "complicated" Ibrox near miss after making a move to amateur football.
The 19-year-old spent time with Steven Gerrard's side at the end of last season and even featured in a bounce game against Corby Town.
Gerrard has prioritised having a raft of options in wide areas and signed Ryan Kent, Sheyi Ojo, Greg Stewart, Jordan Jones and Jake Hastie this summer.
The winger, who was still with Lille at the time, didn't win a contract but is positive about his future with FC Annecy, who play in the National 2 League, after penning a two-year deal.
He said: “In the end, it didn’t get done (a deal with Rangers).
"I was still under contract at Lille. It was complicated."
Bensaber earned rave reviews for his displays within the Lille academy and his new boss Michel Poinsignon can't wait to get the best out of his new recruit but has urged a note of caution.
The Annecy boss said: "He will bring his percussion, his ability to eliminate.
"But he's only 19, so do not put pressure on him. He has everything to prove.
"He is a little behind physically but he can already be a wildcard for us."
The player himself is hoping to kick on with his new team-mates in the season ahead.
He added: "It's not about me.
"I like to get the best out of the others,
"I prefer to provide assists than the goals.
"But my only goal this season is to participate in the rise of the group and the good cohesion of the team. "
