Yang Hyun-Jun to Celtic on as transfer chances 'increased'

Yang Hyun-Jun could finally be set to get his wish of a move to Celtic this summer.

Reports in South Korea suggest his side Gangwon FC have reluctantly agreed to sell him to the Hoops.

The 21-year-old was quickly identified as a key transfer target by Brendan Rodgers after taking over the reins from Ange Postecoglou.

However, it's not been plain sailing in terms of striking a deal over the striker.

Gangwon have been playing hardball with the Scottish champions, insisting they wouldn't sell their prized asset until the January window as they currently battle relegation from the K-League.

It's said that a fee has already been agreed upon between the clubs, with Yang now expected to finalise personal terms.

The player has been very vocal in his desire to move to Celtic in recent days, and has even accused his current club of breaking promises after a move to the MLS fell through last year.

Yang is so determined to make the move to Glasgow he's even offered to pay up his salary to Gangwon so they allow him to leave.

Now, Sports Chosun say that Gangwon chiefs have agreed to alter their brisk stance over the sale of the player.

It comes after Yang held in-person talks with the club's CEO Kim Byeong-ji.

As a result, the outlet states that Yang's hopes of joining Celtic have "increased".

Earlier this week, Yang said: "It is an opportunity that does not come easily (to join Celtic). I told the CEO, general manager, and coach that I wanted to advance.

"Europe is said to be easier to adapt to in the summer. Of course, the team is in a difficult situation, but when an offer came from the United States last season, the goal was to go to Europe.

"So I didn't go to America and stayed with the team. Also, if an offer comes from Europe, the club said they would actively help.

"Celtic is a good offer, so I want to go. I have to do my best as a member of Gangwon. But I think the desire to go will still be there.

“I want to go to Celtic this summer. I hope Gangwon will allow me to transfer. If the transfer fee isn’t enough, I’ll even give my salary.”
