Yang Hyun-Jun's FIFA 23 profile assessed as Celtic 'target' boasts impressive potential

Celtic have been linked with a move for South Korean youngster Yang Hyun-Jun as Brendan Rodgers looks to build his squad ahead of the new season.

Following Ange Postecoglou's departure from Celtic, Rodgers has returned to the dugout for his second spell as Hoops' manager since departing in 2019. Ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, the 50-year-old will be looking to bolster his squad, and Gangwon's Hyun-Jun is reported to be a target.

Korean outlet Yonhap News state (via Daily Record) that an 'official proposal' has been received from Celtic for the 21-year-old, but they are reluctant to sell during the season with Gangwon currently involved in a relegation scrap. Hyun-Jun has made 65 appearances for Gangwon, scoring nine goals in that time.

So, how does Hyun-Jun compare to the rest of the Celtic squad on FIFA 23? We assessed the 21-year-old's in-game profile to see how he fares against the rest of Rodgers' squad.

Yang Hyun-Jun FIFA 23 rating analysed

Overall rating: 64/99

Overall Potential: 79/99

Positions: RW/ST

Weak Foot: Four Star

Skill Moves: Thee Star

Hyun-Jun is rated at a low 64 out of 99 in FIFA 23 currently, meaning only youngsters Dane Murray (61) and Rocco Vata (64) are rated lower in the current Celtic squad. But, since the release of FIFA 23 last year, the South Korean's rating has increased from 59 to 64, showing how much he's improved this season.

Able to play as a right-winger or a striker according to FIFA, Hyun-Jun also boasts a four-star weak foot, suggesting the 21-year-old is very capable of using both feet regularly. But, the stat that standouts the most for Kyun-Jun is his potential rating, with FIFA 23 predicting the winger could reach an overall rating of 79 out of 99.

If the winger was to hit his potential rating, that would make him higher-rated than any current member of the Celtic first-team, with Jota (77), Callum McGregor (77), Kyogo Furuhashi (76) and Cameron Carter-Vickers (76 all lower-rated). Hyun-Jun's best attributes in FIFA 23 are his Sprint Speed (75), Balance (75), Dribbling (72), Acceleration (71) and Agility (70), all attributes that make a good winger.

Overall, Hyun-Jun's FIFA 23 profile shows that the 21-year-old could become one of the best players in the Celtic squad, with his high potential rating making him better than every current option in the Hoops' first team. But, he's far from that stage at the moment, and only time will tell how good the South Korean could become.
