Yan Bingtao stuns John Higgins to become youngest Masters champion in 26 years after brilliant comeback

China's Yan Bingtao shocked John Higgins with a brilliant comeback to claim his first Masters title after a classic final.

Higgins held a comfortable lead at 7-5 and looked on course to claim his first triple crown title in 10 years but he spurned various chances to extend his lead.

Bingtao claimed five of the last six frames to become the youngest champion in 26 years since Ronnie O'Sullivan beat Higgins in 1995 at just 19.

The 20 year-old claimed the Paul Hunter trophy and a £250,000 prize as showed why he is tipped to develop into one of the stars of snooker.

The wizard of Wishaw spurned an opportunity to claim his third Masters title but the 45 year-old was magnanimous in defeat.

Higgins, who entered to the Tartan Army's 'Yes Sir, I Can Boogie' anthem said:"It is a great achievement winning it at such a young age. I have played him the last few years.

"He has not much to learn in the tactical department and he is scoring as well now.

"He was fantastic. He has such an incredible all round game.He could be a world champion without a shadow of a doubt, so China is very lucky to have Yan."

"I had chances I should have gone 6-3 in front, I am sick. I should have been in control to go 8-5 in front and I had a couple of chances in the last frame there. I am gutted but every credit to him. Congratulations to Yan."
