Yamato Drummers band member missing: Police 'increasingly concerned' for Sho Teshigawara after musician goes missing from UK tour

Police are “increasingly concerned” about the welfare of a musician who went missing from his band’s UK tour four days ago.

Sho Teshigawara, from Japan, had been touring with the Yamato Drummers since January. Mr Teshigawara, 19, was last seen by his bandmates at G Live in Guildford at about 2pm on Thursday. The band was due to play at the venue that night.

Surrey Police said the last confirmed sighting of him was at Dorking station at about 6.30pm the same day.

He is thought to have been planning to take the 6.37pm train to London Victoria.

The Yamato Drummers had scheduled performances in High Wycombe and Birmingham over the weekend, as well as in Middlesbrough and Sunderland later this week. It is due to complete the tour with a 17-night stay at Holborn’s Peacock Theatre between March 12 and March 31.

And police said on Monday “there is a chance he may have been intending to travel there”.

The force added: “Sho speaks very little English and is not believed to have much money with him, and officers and his family are becoming increasingly concerned for his safety.

“Sho was last seen wearing a dark jacket and green khaki trousers, and was carrying a blue rucksack.

“If you have seen Sho, or if you were travelling on the 6.37pm train from Dorking to London Victoria, please get in touch as a matter of urgency.”

A blurb for the band's UK tour read: "The acclaimed performances of Japanese Taiko drumming and music have captivated audiences of over 7 million people in 54 countries across the globe.

"Yamato will leave audiences in the UK exhilarated by this visually spectacular, high-energy and explosive show."

It was founded in 1993 and has performed more than 3,500 times in 51 countries.
