Yamaha Has Donated Over $8 Million Toward Outdoor Recreation Stewardship and Lands

We're living through a period where our public lands are under threat, both in terms of their funding, staffing, and operations, as well as just being sold off to the highest bidder or being seized by the government that is supposed to be entrusted with its continued well-being. Case in point, the US Marines attempting to seize Johnson Valley and basically end King of the Hammers, or the 'Roadless Rule' being overturned by the feds

Yet, certain groups have endeavored to help breed further access, foster better conservation, and help folks fight for our public lands and public land access, and one of the biggest names in that space is Yamaha and its Outdoor Access Initiative

RideApart's covered the OAI before, and celebrated its successes, but in the latest report from the company, it's crossed a pretty big milestone in that Yamaha's sent out a total of over $8 million to strengthen public access and fund stewardship projects since its inception, and that's cause for celebration in my eyes.

"The Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative reflects our long-standing commitment to protecting access and promoting responsible recreation across America’s public lands," stated Steve Nessl, Yamaha Motorsports marketing director, adding, "Crossing the $8 million milestone underscores the tremendous impact made possible by our dealer partners, riding communities, and land stewardship organizations. Each project we support strengthens opportunities for future generations to enjoy safe, sustainable outdoor adventures."

The OAI began life in 2008 and has since funded 550 projects, ranging from expanding OHV access, funding educational programs for local museums and science centers, trail cleanups, land renewal, fire mitigation projects, and so much more. And even with all the funding the company's already doled out, it's not stopping any time soon, as with this announcement, Yamaha reminded everyone that they, too, can apply for an OAI grant.

"The Yamaha OAI accepts applications year-round and awards funding quarterly, prioritizing projects that enhance safe and responsible OHV use, improve and maintain trails, and protect long-term public land access," says the company, further adding, "The application deadline for Q3 2025 grants is September 30. Public land managers, riding clubs, and outdoor organizations are encouraged to apply at YamahaOAI.com."

So if your local off-road club, motorcycle group, snowmobile guide service is looking to help better our public lands in some way, you can apply and get a little more cash from Yamaha to be even better stewards of our public lands than you were before. All it takes is a few minutes of your time.

And good job, Yamaha.
