Yahoo Japan Corp. will pay all its employees 50,000 yen to support their working remotely, using the company's PayPay cashless settlement system to transfer the money.
The company expects employees to use the subsidy to buy office furniture, including desks and chairs, and computer-related equipment such as monitors, to help them be more productive and healthy when working from home.
About 7,800 employees, including contract workers and new recruits who join the company this year, will be eligible for the subsidy.
Yahoo Japan is considering using the PayPay system to pay employee salaries, in keeping with deregulation. The subsidy payments will serve as a trial run in that regard. The company will also increase the monthly allowance for telecommunications expenses from 3,000 yen to 5,000, yen in line with the growth in the number of teleworking employees.
Yahoo Japan eliminated restrictions on how frequently employees could telework, and for how many hours, beginning last October, due to the spread of the novel coronavirus. Currently, about 95% of its employees work from home.
