Yachtsman missing after boat found empty in Bristol Channel

A search is underway for a man whose yacht has run aground apparently empty in the Bristol Channel.

Police are working with HM Coastguard to try to find David Moore, who apparently left Watchet Marina in Somerset and headed up towards Bristol over the weekend.

But police said a witness reported seeing the boat - called the ‘Egoist’ - apparently abandoned after it ran aground at Berrow just after dawn on Monday morning, without him on board.

Avon and Somerset said they were treating the mystery as a missing person case, and said they are worried about what has happened to the 43-year-old man.

“Officers are concerned for the welfare of David Moore,” said a police spokesperson.

“Police are working with HM Coastguard to try to find the owner of the yacht which has run aground at Berrow.

“A witness reported seeing the ‘Egoist’ apparently abandoned at about 6.30am today, June 3,” she added.

“The vessel was seen leaving Watchet Marina on the afternoon of Saturday 1 June.

“Anyone with information which could help is asked to get in touch through www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/contact, or by calling 101, quoting reference 5219122957,” she added.
