Y Not Festival cancelled amid concerns it could put additional pressure on emergency services

Organisers have made the "difficult decision" to cancel this year's Y Not Festival amid concerns it could put additional pressure on emergency services over the summer.

Up to 15,000 revellers were expected to descend on Pikehall, Derbyshire, over the July 23 - 26 weekend for three days of music from the likes of Royal Blood, Richard Ashcroft, Craig David, Bombay Bicycle Club, Rag 'N' Bone Man, Levellers, James, Pale Waves, Eve, Annie Mac and Mr Motivator.

But in light of continuing coronavirus developments this will no longer go ahead.

In a statement to its patrons organisers said the decision was made not only with the safety of its artists and festival-goers in mind but also amid concerns that pulling on the expertise of health and emergency services could put them under additional pressure.

It said: "Following the continuing developments in the Covid-19 pandemic, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel this year’s festival.

"With everything going on in the world right now, we know this is the right thing to do. The safety of the audience, artists, crew and wider community has to come first.

"Y Not Festival draws on the expertise of many fantastic people across many services from emergency planning to medical professionals.

"These people are going to be needed both locally and nationally, now, and in the summer more than ever. We do not want to put additional pressure on the health and emergency services at this time.

"Y Not is a labour of love and being unable to share it with you this year is heartbreaking. But our focus now should be on compassion, unity and getting through this together."

Organisers are offering to either refund tickets or transfer them to next year's event. Full details available at ynotfestival.com
