XXXTentacion death: Lawyer warned rapper to increase security before he died

XXXTentacion's lawyer urged him to beef up security before his death. ( Miami-Dade County Jail )

XXXTentacion's lawyer David Bogenschutz has revealed that he attempted to convince the late rapper to increase his security before his death last week.

The rapper - born Jahseh Onfroy - died last Monday after being shot while leaving a motorcycle shop in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

While speaking with The Sun Sentinel, Bogenschutz said that he advised the late rapper to protect himself.

"We talked about him needing security, that he was past the point of being a kid making melodies on a street corner," Bogenschutz recalled.

At the time X was shot, he didn't have a security team.

Bogenschutz then proceeded to disclose what he knew about the events surrounding the 20-year-old rapper's death.

"The only thing I know for a fact is that they were investigating it as a random robbery," Bogenschutz said. "I think he went to the bank before it happened. I think the determination was that he wanted to buy a motorcycle, but [detectives] are not discounting any theory."

Despite a number of allegations of sexual assault against him, Bogenschutz maintains that X was on an "upward track."

"The incredibly sad thing about this is this kid had turned his life around since November," he explained.

He added: "His legacy at age 20 is just that he was a kid doing what God gave him the gift to do and recognising there was more to life than being inside a courtroom, and accomplishing it."

Last week, police revealed that Florida homicide detectives had arrested 22-year-old suspect Dedrick D Williams.

Williams was taken into custody on June 20 and has since been charged with first-degree murder.
