Xi Wishes France’s President a Speedy Recovery From Covid-19

What’s new: President Xi Jinping on Friday extended his wish for his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, to experience a speedy recovery from Covid-19, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.

Macron tested positive after developing mild symptoms on Thursday. He will self-isolate for seven days, cancel all upcoming trips including a scheduled visit to Lebanon, and afterwards continue to work, according to the French president’s office.

Previously, Xi also extended a similar wish for a speedy recovery to his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump, and First Lady Melania Trump after they tested positive for Covid-19 in early October. The pair have subsequently recovered.

The background: Macron is the latest world leader to test positive for Covid-19. Among world leaders, U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández have all contracted the virus and later recovered.
