Xherdan Shaqiri opens up on "easier" Anfield challenge amid Liverpool losing run

Xherdan Shaqiri believes it is "easier to come to Anfield" while crowds remain absent as Liverpool battle a horror run of home form.

The Reds had gone 68 games - almost four years - without losing a league game at home before Burnley secured a shock win back in January.

Since then though losing games has become a regular occurrence for Jurgen Klopp's side.

Brighton, Manchester City, Everton and Chelsea all recorded wins at Anfield.

Relegation threatened Fulham are the latest team to leave the red half of Merseyside with all three points.

And Shaqiri admits that smaller clubs are no longer intimidated by the challenge of playing Liverpool on their own patch.

"Everybody knows how our fans are when they push us," the Swiss winger told Sky Sports .

"Everybody knows how many games we have managed to come back in if we concede a goal.

"I think there are many, many games where you can see that, many examples. Of course, we miss them a lot.

"For the smaller teams, it is easier to come to Anfield with no fans. There is no pressure.

"You can see that in many ways and in many games. The smaller teams have more of a chance."

Liverpool have also failed to score from open play in their last six home games.

Mohamed Salah's penalty in the 4-1 defeat against City is the only time the Reds have found the back of the net.

Their steep drop off in form has cast major doubt over their top four spot and qualifying for the Champions League now looks a tall order.

Liverpool languish down in eighth - eight points off fourth spot.

Aston Villa will be the next team to visit Anfield when they travel north on April 10.
