Xherdan Shaqiri on his relationship with Jurgen Klopp and being 'dissatisfied' at Liverpool

Xherdan Shaqiri has no regrets over his move to Liverpool despite being "dissatisfied" with his current role.

And the Switzerland international maintains he has no issue with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp and regards himself as one of the leaders at the club.

Shaqiri has been restricted to just one start since January and has made only four substitute appearances this season, having been sidelined for the past fortnight with a calf problem.

The 27-year-old is expected to return after the international break, and withdrew himself from international duty last month to concentrate on his Liverpool career.

But while unimpressed by his lack of minutes, the winger is confident he can grasp his first-team opportunity when it arrives.

“Of course I’m dissatisfied that I do not play more often,” said Shaqiri.

“If that is not the reaction of a pro, he’s in the wrong job. He (Klopp) cannot personally discuss the role of each player, that’s normal.

“We have a big, talented squad, and many have to wait for their chance.

Blood Red: Xherdan Shaqiri's chance will come at Liverpool

"I have never had a problem with the coach. He knows that I am ready.”

Shaqiri scored six goals last autumn during a period when Liverpool boss Klopp switched to a 4-2-3-1 formation.

However, his only start in the last nine months came in May's 4-0 Champions League semi-final second leg win against Barcelona, in which he created the third goal for Gini Wijnaldum.

“Not for a second have I regretted the move to Liverpool," he said in an interview with Schweizer-Illustrierte.

“Many wrote me off in Stoke, but who can claim to have switched directly from a relegated side to a Champions League winner?

“I was in the starting XI in the return leg of the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona, which will go down in club history.

“And because of my two goals to defeat everlasting rival Manchester United, they still often call me a legend.

“Apart from the fact that I would like to play more, I’m happy in Liverpool. I have a certain status in the team because I am one of the more experienced players. I think I’m one of the leaders."

Shaqiri added: "The people here are totally crazy about football.

"I know what I can and that I'm a good match for English football. And I earned the contract in Liverpool with my services in Stoke. It is simply a step forward in my career to a club where everyone would like to play."
