Xherdan Shaqiri injury latest as Liverpool star returns to Switzerland

Xherdan Shaqiri is currently undergoing treatment in Switzerland after suffering a calf injury last month.

The Liverpool playmaker has been sidelined since picking up a knock in training ahead of the Reds' League Cup trip to MK Dons.

The 28-year-old confirmed to Swiss press on Monday that he was "undergoing part of his therapy in Basel".

And the ECHO understands will definitely miss Liverpool 's Champions League trip to Genk and remains some way away from a return to fitness.

Speaking as he watched Roger Federer in the Swiss Indoor tournament in Basel, Shaqiri said: "I'm from Basel as well, so I always visit my family here. I am a little stunted at the moment. Since I can do a part of my therapy here in Basel and now I was just enough to be able to watch the Federer game. "

Shaqiri has endured an injury-plagued campaign so far after he missed the start of pre-season having suffered a previous calf problem while starring for Switzerland against England in the UEFA Nations League in June.

Limited to just four appearances so far this season as a result, he last featured for Liverpool in their opening Champions League group game defeat in Napoli.
