Xherdan Shaqiri hands Liverpool injury boost plus updates on Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson fitness

Xherdan Shaqiri has handed Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp an injury boost after been pictured back in training at Melwood but Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson remain major doubts for Saturday's game at Crystal Palace.

Although Brazilian trio Alisson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino were all in action for their country today in their 3-0 win over South Korea in Abu Dhabi, many of the Reds players have now returned from international duty with the likes of captain Jordan Henderson back in the fold.

Shaqiri – who has been restricted to just 29 minutes of action so far this season in the shape of four appearances off the bench – has not played since he came on as a late substitute in Liverpool's opening Champions League match of the campaign, a 2-0 defeat to Napoli on September 17.

The Swiss international has been sidelined by a calf injury with Klopp quipping that his recovery period was taking longer than usually expected because of the player's “big muscles.”

However, Shaqiri was shown both completing dribbling drills and taking part in a contact session with James Milner.

As reported yesterday in the ECHO , Salah and Robertson are both struggling to be fit for the trip to Selhurst Park with their respective ankle injuries but while Joe Gomez is not ready to take part in a full session after withdrawing from England's second game of the break in Kosovo with a knee injury, Liverpool remain hopeful that he will have recovered in time for their fixture against the Eagles.
