Xhaka, Ramsey, Sokratis - Latest Arsenal team news and expected XI vs Newcastle United

Unai Emery is sweating on the fitness of one key player ahead of Monday night's Premier League clash against Newcastle United.

The Gunners host Rafa Benitez's side at the Emirates Stadium looking to consolidate their position in the top four as they head into the final six weeks of the campaign.

But they might have to do it without midfielder Granit Xhaka, who picked up a thigh injury during the international break.

The midfielder had helped fire Switzerland into a 3-0 lead against Denmark in their Euro 2020 qualifier on Wednesday night, scoring his side's second goal in typically spectacular sytle.

But he had to be replaced 11 minutes from time after complaining of a thigh problem and having left the pitch he had to watch on as Denmark staged an incredible comeback, scoring three times in the final six minutes to snatch a 3-3 draw.

Issuing an update on social media upon his return to England, Xhaka said: "Back in London but still unhappy that we didn’t secure the three points in the EURO qualifiers against Denmark.

"It is always painful not to be able to go the full distance but I pushed myself as hard as I could until I had to ask for my substitution in the 79th minute.

"After not being able to finish the match fighting with my teammates, I will have the first treatment tonight [Thursday] to make sure to recover quickly."

His absence would be a huge blow to Arsenal on Monday night, especially with Lucas Torreira still suspended following the red card he was shown against Tottenham in the north London derby.

There are also question marks over Aaron Ramsey, who returned to London Colney early from international duty with Wales due to a thigh problem - but the 27-year-old is expected to recover in time to feature.

In a further boost to Arsenal, both Sokratis and Sead Kolasinac played the full 90 minutes during Greece's game with Bosnia on Tuesday and showed no signs of the injuries that had kept them out of matches over the weekend.

Nacho Monreal, who sat out Arsenal's warm weather training camp in Dubai due to a calf problem, is fit again and could be involved against the Magpies.
