Xhaka, Partey, Tierney – Arsenal team news and injury latest ahead of derby with Tottenham

Arsenal head into Sunday's north London derby with a spring in their step after back-to-back Premier League wins and booking their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup midweek.

The Gunners comfortably saw off AFC Wimbledon 3-0 and will now face Leeds United in the next round.

Alexandre Lacazette’s early penalty was not built on until the final 13 minutes when substitute Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah wrapped up Arsenal’s place in the next round.

It comes following 1-0 wins against Norwich and Burnley – and Mikel Arteta will be keen for his men to beat their bitter rivals when they face-off on Sunday.

After fielding a below-strength side against AFC Wimbledon, Arteta will have some injuries and suspensions to contend with ahead of the tie.

Thomas Partey

Partey got an hour under his belt during the midweek Carabao Cup game against AFC Wimbledon as he steps up his efforts to get back to full fitness.

Speaking after the game on whether it was part of his plan for the midfielder to play for so many minutes, coach Mikel Arteta said: "Yes it was. He hasn’t played a lot of minutes since he’s been injured. We believe the rhythm of matches is nothing like any training session. I think it was very beneficial for him."

He also denied that playing Partey was a risk.

Arteta added: "We didn’t think so and that’s why we made the decision to play him - but it’s always a risk when you play a match or have a training session at the intensity that we train.

"We believe it was the right thing to do and he was really pushing for it, so I think it worked out well."

Granit Xhaka

The midfielder has now served the third and final game of his suspension following his red card against Manchester City before the international break.

To add to that good news, Xhaka is back to full health after testing positive for Covid-19 which caused him to miss Switzerland's international triple-header earlier in the month.

The 28-year-old returned to training last week following an isolation period in Basel and could be involved against Spurs.

Mohamed Elneny

Elneny missed the Burnley win with a hamstring injury.

Prior to the Turf Moor trip, an update on Arsenal.com read: "Left hamstring. Mo has worked hard with the medical team after suffering a hamstring strain and is aiming to be back in full training next week.”

Premier Injuries no longer shows Elneney as being injured, which means he could be available for selection against Tottenham if his recovery goes to plan.

Kieran Tierney

Tierney has started all five of the Gunners' Premier League fixtures so far this season, although he has been substituted in two of them, including in the game at Turf Moor.

He appeared to be in some discomfort during the game and appeared to suffer from cramp.

Granit Xhaka

Premier Injuries lists his potential return date as September 26, meaning he could be set to play against Spurs.

"Again he had a problem", Arteta confirmed after the game against Burnley. "I think he was cramping. The pitch was pretty difficult today it was quite long".
