XFL will have 1-, 2- and 3-point conversion options

Fans of the XFL are no doubt wringing their hands after seeing the Alliance of American Football fold before it finished its first season.

However, even if the XFL has a long road ahead to become sustainable, it’s pretty clear that the 2020 season will be a lot of fun.

Speaking on the PFT PM podcast, XFL commissioner Oliver Luck announced that touchdowns will result in the scoring team getting to choose among attempting a one-point conversion, a two-point conversion and a three-point conversion.

A one-point attempt will require the team to score from the 2-yard line, while a two-point attempt starts at the 5-yard line, and a three-point attempt is from 10 yards out.

That’s drastically unlike the AAF, which eliminated extra-point kicks but only gave teams a two-point option.

In its previous version, which folded in 2001 after one season of play, the XFL had one-, two- and three-point conversion attempts after an in-season rule change.

This version of wrestling magnate Vince McMahon’s league is set to get started early in 2020 with eight teams — including an unnamed team that will play at CenturyLink Field in Seattle.
