XFL’s DC Defenders franchise says goodbye with delicious burn of Darren Rovell

The XFL is gone, with the league suspending its operations this week and laying off most staff. According to reports, the league has no plans to resume operations in 2021. For all intents and purposes, this is the end of the XFL.

While a second pro football league was always going to have a tough fight to survive in this country, it’s impossible to talk about the end of the XFL without talking about the global coronavirus pandemic. The league was forced to shut down just as it was getting off the ground, which essentially doomed it.

Context isn’t exactly the specialty of Darren Rovell, however. The media personality sent out a tweet comparing the run of the AAF to the run of the XFL, noting that the AAF had more games.

The fact that the AAF collapsed due to gross financial mismanagement and a failure to secure sponsoring, and the XFL failed mostly due to a global medical pandemic, is not interesting to Darren, who just wanted to score easy points with a tweet.

The XFL’s DC Defenders, who have had one of the more entertaining Twitter feeds during the team’s short run, could have pointed out all that to Rovell. Instead, in a much better move, they dunked on him.

Part of me hopes this is their last tweet. One beautiful posterization to say goodbye.
