XFL player for Seattle Dragons tests positive for coronavirus, has been quarantined

The rapidly spreading coronavirus has struck the XFL, which suspended league play Friday, as the league confirmed to USA TODAY Sports reporter Tom Schad that an unidentified player, a member of the Seattle Dragons, has tested positive for the virus and has been quarantined.

Per USA TODAY Sports reporter Tom Schad

The player received a test for COVID-19 “as soon as possible,” according to the XFL, and received the findings Friday — less than 24 hours after the league announced it was suspending its season, like other professional sports leagues around the country.

The unidentified player did participate in Seattle’s previous game against the Houston Roughnecks, the league said, but he was asymptomatic at that time.

“The league is alerting players, staff, vendors and partners associated with the Dragons, Roughnecks, and (St. Louis) BattleHawks, as this player also participated in the February 29 game in St. Louis,” the league said in a statement provided to USA TODAY Sports on Saturday.

“The XFL is monitoring the situation closely and taking every measure necessary in accordance with recommendations set forth by the CDC.”
