XFL names Ryan Gustafson president of new Seattle team

The XFL has named Ryan Gustafson president of the new team in Seattle. The professional league, owned by pro wrestling magnate Vince McMahon, will launch a rebooted version February 2020, with clubs also located in Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, St. Louis, Tampa Bay and Washington, D.C. The XFL previously folded after playing one season in 2001.

Gustafson will be tasked with fan engagement and business operations, including ticket sales, corporate partnerships, marketing, content, communications, community relations and the game-day experience, per the XFL press release.

Raised in Bellevue, Gustafson attended the University of Puget Sound for his undergraduate work and received an MBA from Harvard. He most recently served as the vice president of business strategy and development for Sounders FC.

“I’m excited to help bring the XFL to the Pacific Northwest and build a team that makes a lasting impact in our community,” Gustafson said. “Growing up less than ten miles from CenturyLink Field, and with a love of all things connected to Seattle sports, I know how special fans are here, and I’m grateful to the XFL leadership for this truly unique opportunity.”

Seattle’s XFL team will play at CenturyLink Field beginning next year. Former Seahawks quarterback Jim Zorn has been named head coach and general manager.
