The XFL is coming to Seattle and a number of former Seahawks were present at the combine-style Summer Showcase held last weekend. But with training camp coming up and the 53-man roster cuts not far behind, XFL teams will be closing monitoring NFL clubs’ potential cuts.
“XFL commissioner Oliver Luck said he’s keeping an eye on Seattle’s backup QB competition as he eyes potential signings – if Geno Smith or Paxton Lynch were to be cut, they could be a match for the new league,” tweeted the Athletic’s Buccaneers reporter Greg Auman. “Smith was QB when he was AD at West Virginia.”
The XFL held another Summer Showcase in Tampa on Saturday, during which the commissioner had addressed the media.
The Seahawks’ backup quarterback battle has been competitive this offseason with Lynch and Smith appearing to be neck and neck for the job this season.
The fight for the right to back up Wilson in 2020 will continue beginning July 24 when Seattle’s players report for training camp.
