XFL announces Marc Trestman as head coach and general manager of Tampa Bay franchise

Marc Trestman is a head coach again in the United States of America.

The former Chicago Bears head coach is back from the Canadian Football League, taking over as head coach and general manager of the unnamed Tampa Bay franchise in the upcoming XFL.

Trestman spent the last two seasons as head coach of the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL, winning his third Grey Cup title in 2017 before a four-win 2018 season that led to his firing in November.

His last NFL gig was as offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens in 2015 and 2016.

Trestman went 13-19 over his two years in Chicago, putting together the NFL’s second-leading offense in 2013 with Jay Cutler, Matt Forte, Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery and Martellus Bennett.

Trestman is the fourth head coach announced for the eight-team XFL, which is planning to launch in 2020.

The added role of general manager will be a new challenge for the 63-year-old, who didn’t always have the best personnel to work with during his time in the NFL.
