Xergy bags £1.8m investment for oil & gas talent pool platform

Tech firm Xergy has secured £1.8 million of private investment for its digital platform which matches oil & gas professionals with projects that need their skills.

The Aberdeen-based business claims its Proteus cloud-based system will revolutionise the way the upstream sector staffs projects worldwide.

It incorporates an ERP (enterprise resource planning) system that aims to save companies money by keeping timesheet records, ensuring they only use the services they need and cutting down on travel.

Its team of 12 is led by oil & gas sector stalwarts James McCallum and Colin Manson and previously attracted £1million of private investment. It also has an office in Dubai serving the lucrative Middle East energy industry.

Manson, who was a founder of Xodus, and McCallum, a founder of Senergy, have raised the capital through high net-worth contacts in the industry.

Manson said: “We have now secured almost £3million from private investors, which has allowed us to develop and beta test Proteus with amazing feedback from users, including Emerson and Xodus.

"This investment underlines our confidence in the product and the value and efficiencies it can bring but it also demonstrates that there is appetite for disruption within the sector."

Proteus links the workflow systems used by most oil and gas companies and a talent pool of freelance contractors.

Manson added: “By adopting Proteus, as a new way of operating, the working culture in oil and gas can be truly transformed."
