The Xbox Series X launched in the UK today, alongside its cheaper alternative, the Xbox Series S - and has already sold out in many stores.

The Series X is on sale for £449, while the Series S comes in at £249. But the much-anticipated console has already sold out at Amazon, John Lewis, Currys PC World, GAME and Argos.

The Xbox Series X is already up on eBay where some sellers are charging as much as £900 - twice the retail price.

The Xbox Series X is seen as an opportunity for Microsoft, its developer, to best rival Sony, whose PlayStation 4 sold twice as many units as the Xbox One.

Initially, the Xbox Series S console was leaked by tech news website Thurrot.com and it gave us the first look at Microsoft's then rumoured second console.

The main difference between the two is that the Series S does not have a disc tray and comes with a smaller solid-state drive.

The latest models are said to be “fastest, most powerful games console ever”.

In a bid to drive sales, Microsoft is introducing a games subscription services, where for a monthly fee users can download and play a wide variety of games.
