Xbox Live down again as online gaming service suffers second outage in 24 hours

Xbox Live is suffering its second major outage in 24 hours, with gamers unable to log in to their accounts, purchase games or access previously purchased content.

The online gaming service has been having issues since 16:06 BST, according to the website DownDetector, which monitors online outages.

DownDetector's outage map shows that people in the UK and the East Coast of the United States are the worst affected.

"We are aware that some members may be having problems finding previously-purchased content or purchasing new content," Microsoft said in a statement on its Service Status page.

"We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, and we will be sure to provide you with frequent updates."

The company also acknowledged that some members are having problems signing into their Xbox Live accounts.

"Our engineers and developers are actively continuing to work to resolve the issue," it said. "Stay tuned, and thanks for your patience."

It is not yet clear what has caused the outage, but Microsoft said it is investigating and will update its Status page when it has more information.

Many Xbox Live users took to social media and online forums to vent their frustrations.

"Not letting me sign in. I wouldn't mind but I've only just paid for my membership to play online! And I can't get on now," one user called John wrote on the DownDetector forum.

"Really annoying. Thought the issue would have been fixed by now as it started last night. Pay monthly to constantly have issues, it's a joke," wrote another user called Ross.

The news comes after Xbox Live suffered a similar outage yesterday evening, with users having problems buying items, redeeming codes and downloading purchases.

Microsoft claimed to have fixed the issue earlier today, but problems persist.
