Xbox and Playstation controllers are now compatible with Apple TV

Apple is getting serious about gaming, with the news that the Apple TV set-top box is now compatible with Xbox and Playstation controllers.

The new compatibility comes as part of the latest software update, called tvOS 13, so users will just have to install the update on their Apple TVs to start using the controllers.

This should make it much easier to play games on your Apple TV, making it more of a direct competitor to traditional game consoles like the Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo Switch.

The news comes ahead of the launch of Apple Arcade , the company's game streaming service, later this year.

Arcade will offer access to over 100 new games at launch - including Frogger and Sonic Racing - with new games added regularly.

Users can play across different devices, including iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple TV.

Apple Arcade will be available this autumn in over 150 countries around the world. Apple is yet to reveal the pricing details.
