Microsoft is celebrating the 25 years of Xbox this year, and in its recent Xbox Games Showcase, it announced the special and limited edition 25th anniversary edition of its console, which proudly brings back the retro green design.
Microsoft Unveils 25th Anniversary Xbox Console
Microsoft has shared details of the new console coming later this year, which celebrates the 25 years of Xbox in the market since it was first unveiled by the company way back in January 2001.
In its latest press release, Microsoft shows off what it calls the "Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition" console, which features the original design and vibe of the gaming device that started it all for the company.
The tech company unveiled this during the latest edition of the Xbox Games Showcase and gave fans sentimental feelings during the show, especially as it featured the OG translucent green design of the console.
The company leaned heavily into the history and nostalgia of the console in its presentation, showing how far they have come in their journey to deliver this gaming experience.
Xbox Series X's OG Green Console, Controllers
For the first time, Microsoft is bringing a translucent design to the Xbox Series X, drawing inspiration from the original Xbox and OG Green theme. The Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition includes 1 TB of storage and a design that reflects the brand's history and the community that has supported it along the way.
Long-time fans will immediately recognize several aspects of the console's features as from the moment it powers on, the iconic "X" lights up in green as a direct nod to the original Xbox startup experience. It is also complemented by the Xbox 25th Anniversary logo and other design elements that are based on the classic hardware.
Alongside the Series X25, the Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition also arrives in the OG translucent green, featuring the original ABXY colors, and bumpers that honor the original black and white buttons found on the first-generation Duke controller.
The back case and battery door are fully transparent, revealing the classic Xbox logo, according to Microsoft.
No Release Dates Yet
The translucent green look is something Xbox fans have not seen on a mainline console in years, and its return has already generated a wave of excitement online. Microsoft is clearly leaning into that nostalgia as the centerpiece of this anniversary celebration.
That said, buyers will need to hold on a little longer before they can get one in hand as Microsoft claimed that the Series X25 will be available by November.
However, the company has not yet unveiled its exact release date. Further details on its availability, preorder, and more will arrive soon, as per Microsoft.
