Xavier Tillman ranked #2 in Malone Award watchlist

Continuing his dramatic ascent to national prominence, Xavier Tillman has been ranked second in NCAA.com Andy Katz’s projections for the 2019-20 Malone Award, given to the nation’s top power forward.

I actually think Tillman will be more of a center this year without Nick Ward in the lineup, but I appreciate the shoutout nonetheless.

Andy Katz said of Tillman, “One of the rising stars in the game… No Nick Ward, no Kenny Goins up front. Tillman is going to take on a lot of the scoring and rebounding load inside, but he can handle it.”

Aside from scoring and rebounding, Tillman will also be given the duty of running around screening for Joshua Langford and Cassius Winston constantly as well.

Here was what Katz had to say in his piece on the Malone Award:

“Tillman will shine even more with the departures of Nick Ward and Kenny Goins. He has continued to diversify his game and will continue to be a major factor in the Spartans quest for a national title.”
