Xavier Mbuyamba addresses transfer speculation amid links to Celtic

Xavier Mbuyamba has broken his silence on transfer speculation regarding his future.

The Dutch defender has been linked with a summer move to Celtic.

The Volendam centre-back is reportedly on the radar of Ange Postecoglou ahead of the transfer window opening up.

Sky Sports claim the Hoops are interested in the 21-year and have "looked into" the possibility of taking him to Parkhead.

Postecoglou wants to bolster his ranks ahead of a better crack at the Champions League next term.

And Mbuyamba seems to fit that mold, having already earned comparisons to Virgil van Dijk in the budding stages of his career.

Now, the player has admitted there is likely to be bids for him this summer, however, he will only leave the Eredivisie club if it's for the right deal.

The former Chelsea academy player said: “My agent is in the Netherlands. Soon, we will discuss what is going on.

“There will be interest. But the main question is whether a move is right for me. If not, then I will stay. I have said that I will stay with FC Volendam for a maximum of two years, and this is the first season.

“This was my first year in men’s football. I played in everything, showed that I can perform well and stayed fit.

"That’s great. I can’t complain about my performance.”
