Xavier Amaechi set Bolton Wanderers aim after ex-Arsenal winger's loan extended for season

Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt has called on Xavier Amaechi to take the opportunites awarded to him in the second half of the season after his loan spell was renewed.

The winger, who turns 21 today, joined Wanderers over the summer from Hamburg in an initial six-month loan deal.

The agreement has now been given international clearance, which kept the winger out of the New Year's Day League One clash against Rotherham United and last night's Papa John's Trophy game versus Hartlepool United.

Amaechi has made eight appearances in all competitions so far for Bolton, who had to wait until November to make his competitive debut due to recovering from a fractured metatarsal picked up in a pre-season friendly against Preston North End.

He has scored once so far for Bolton in the 2-2 draw against Cheltenham Town in League One.

There have been flashes of what the former Arsenal trainee can do so far in a Wanderers shirt - and Evatt wants to see more of it in the second half of the campaign from Amaechi when opportunities are granted to him.

Wanderers boss Evatt said: “We’re really glad he’s still with us. He’s had a stop-start season and we just need to get him going with a clear run for the rest of the season.

“The same could be said of a few of the players, so it will be good for him to get some regular games and show us what can do.

“We’ve seen flashes of it and it’s an opportunity for him now and he has to take it.”
