Xavier Amaechi's first words after sealing £2.25m Hamburg transfer from Arsenal

Xavier Amaechi has officially left Arsenal.

Following in the footsteps of Reiss Nelson, Emile Smith Rowe and several other talented English youngsters, the teenager has made the move to Germany in order to get some first-team football under his belt.

However, the big difference is that this move is a permanent one.

Amaechi has signed a four-year contract with the 2. Bundesliga outfit with the Gunners reportedly receiving £2.25m for the 18-year-old who could have left for free next summer.

Highly-rated by many at the Emirates Stadium, the winger looked set for a prominent role under Unai Emery this season after being named in the Europa League final squad last season.

Although, Amaechi wasn't named amongst the 12 substitutes and that seemed to signal the end of his Arsenal career.

His departure hasn't been well received by many supporters on Twitter, but Amaechi is relishing the prospect of a fresh challenge as he seeks to help Hamburg return to the top flight of German football.

Speaking to the club's official website, Amaechi said: "The conditions here really are perfect. I’m really impressed by the team, the fans and the stadium.

"I think it’s a big chance for me to play for this club."

Meanwhile, Hamburg's Head of Sport Jonas Boldt is delighted to have secured Amaechi's signature.

"He’s a young, talented player, who is quick off-the-mark, has short, sharp movements with and without the ball and looks for 1-vs-1 situations where he can use his skills," he said.

"I didn’t really believe at first that we would be able to negotiate the signature of this player, but particularly Michael Mutzel got in contact with him very early on and fought hard to get him to sign here.

"It was amazing that, despite lucrative offers from other clubs in England and abroad, he decided to join HSV.

"Whilst we’re delighted with the signing and his potential, patience is going to be needed."

According to reports, the Gunners have negotiated a sell-on clause in the deal taking Amaechi to Hamburg, therefore they stand to profit if the 18-year-old shines in a similar way to Serge Gnabry.
