Xavi Simons in Rangers transfer link as Gio van Bronckhorst connection prompts 'cornerstone' talks with super agent

Rangers and Gio van Bronckhorst are interested in PSG youngster Xavi Simons, according to a report.

The Dutch midfielder, 18, is said to be looking for a way out of Paris with first-team opportunities looking unlikely any time soon.

With his contract set to expire in the summer Diario AS report Rangers are interested in a deal — and a January approach isn't ruled out.

It's claimed the Ibrox club have contacted super agent Mino Raiola and have offered Simons the chance to be a 'cornerstone' of the new Ibrox era.

Last month it was reported in Le Parisien that Simons, along with other PSG youngsters such as Édouard Michut, had become unhappy with the club after being returned to the Under-19 squad, despite previous call-ups to the first team.

One of the unhappy players' fathers told the capital city publication: "We should have left this summer."

Simons was brought up in Barcelona's La Masia setup and the pull of a former Camp Nou star who also shares his nationality could be difficult to resist.

However, the Spanish report insists Barca 'would not frown' at the idea of Simons making a return to Catalonia.
