Barcelona have reportedly ruled out the possibility of Dani Alves returning to Catalonia as a player, although he could return as a coach or director.
The Spanish giants are believed to be more than £1billion in debt and free agent Alves, 38, offered to play for the struggling team last month.
Alves said: "The affection, love and respect I have for this club is too much. If Barca think they need me, they just have to call me."
Alves spent eight years at Barcelona earlier in his career, helping them win 23 trophies - including six La Liga titles and the Champions League three times.
But according to AS, new Barcelona manager Xavi is not interested in bringing his old team-mate back to the Nou Camp as a player.

It's believed the Spanish icon, who succeeded Ronald Koeman earlier this month, wants to give the club's youngsters a chance to flourish.
Alves has racked up 999 professional appearances during his illustrious career but Xavi already has good options at right-back in Sergino Dest and Sergi Roberto.
The Brazilian could reportedly still return to Barcelona as a coach or director, working alongside Xavi to help the team dominate again.
President Joan Laporta recently said: "Dani is helping our club in many ways."
At his recent unveiling as manager, Xavi promised to demand the highest standards from his players in a bid to revive Barcelona's season.
The team are currently ninth in La Liga, 11 points off leaders Real Sociedad, and are battling to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
Xavi told reporters: "I know it's a difficult time both financially and on the pitch.
"But I will demand high standards from the players because we are Barcelona, the best club in the world. We need the highest standards at work. From now on, it's about effort and respect."
One of his new players, though, has already broken the rules. According to Sport, Riqui Puig almost ran over a pedestrian while driving a mechanised scooter on a footpath.

It's unclear whether the midfielder will be disciplined for his alleged actions but they certainly don't adhere to Xavi's desired attitude.
Barcelona's new manager has received plenty of support since re-joining the club, where he won 25 trophies - including four Champions League titles - as a player.
Former England striker Gary Lineker tweeted: "Great appointment. Wish him all the very best."
And Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola - who coached Xavi at Barcelona - has given his former player his blessing.

Guardiola told reporters: "If Joan Laporta and the board have chosen Xavi then it’s because there are millions of pros and few cons.
"He knows the club and will bring positive energy, given how he enjoys football and because of his dedication. He always sees the positive side of things.
"With his class, dedication and effort, I’m sure he’ll improve the club’s situation."
