Xavi names one change Barcelona must make to win Champions League again

If anyone knows a thing or two about winning the Champions League with Barcelona it is Xavi Hernandez.

The legendary midfielder lifted the iconic trophy four times during his glittering career, including a fitting farewell in 2015.

But the Catalan club have not lifted the premier piece of silverware in club football since the departure of the midfielder four years ago.

They suffered a humiliating semi-final exit at the hands of Liverpool , letting a three goal lead slip for the second straight year on a miserable night at Anfield.

Ernesto Valverde's side have still won the La Liga title and will chase the Copa del Rey crown against Valencia this weekend.

But Xavi says they need to start dominating games again in order to have a chance to win the Champions League again.

Antoine Griezmann's Barcelona transfer 'imminent' despite two key doubts

"I think Barcelona have to dominate games again, otherwise it is impossible to win the Champions League," Xavi told TV3.

"That's what history tells us as Barcelona first won the Champions League when they were winning La Liga and dominating matches.

"I think that now we aren't dominating much."

Xavi experienced a disappointing farewell in his final competitive game as his Al Sadd side suffered a 4-1 cup final defeat.

Ex-Barcelona president reveals how he dressed up as a waiter to sign Ronaldo

The 39-year-old has been touted as a future Barcelona manager - but he admits he still has plenty to learn before making his glorious Nou Camp return.

"I don't see myself [coaching Barcelona] yet as I can't start my career as a coach of Barcelona's first team, it's not normal," he added.

"I must prove myself as a coach and start from scratch. It would be too quick to go back to Barcelona, or to coach a La Liga team.

"It's obviously my objective to enjoy myself at Barcelona, but I have to be very prepared and it's not the time yet."
