Xavi first request to Barcelona board could prove a problem for Liverpool

Liverpool could face competition for the signing of RB Salzburg sensation Karim Adeyemi from Barcelona following the appointment of club legend Xavi as their new manager.

Adeyemi is the latest potential superstar to come off the Salzburg production line after the likes of Erling Haaland, Sadio Mane and Takumi Minamino in recent years.

The latter duo currently play for Liverpool and the two clubs have enjoyed a good relationship in the past when it comes to completing deals for players.

The Reds also signed Ibrahim Konate from Salzburg's unofficial sister club RB Leipzig in the summer, further strengthening their relationship off the pitch with the Red Bull-owned clubs.

But Liverpool may have a major rival for Adeyemi if they follow up their interest in the 19-year-old forward from Barcelona.

Barca have reportedly held talks with the teenager's agent according to German outlet Sport1, who do also state that it is Borussia Dortmund who are in the driving seat.

But what may help the La Liga club's chances is the fact that Xavi has supposedly made Adeyemi his number one transfer target.

Barcelona's money problems are well documented but president Joan Laporta will want to help his new manager, who was a legend in his playing days at Camp Nou.

Adeyemi, who is currently rated at £18million by transfermarkt, scored on his international debut for Germany against Albania in September and is in rich goalscoring form, having netted 16 times in 22 appearances for club and country this season.

His performances has seen him linked with a host of top clubs around Europe, including Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Adeyemi spent two years in the Bayern academy before leaving.
