Xande Silva responds to Nottingham Forest transfer talk after impressive performances

Xande Silva has refused to be drawn on transfer speculation linking him with a January move from Nottingham Forest.

But the Portuguese says he has enjoyed being given the chance to show what he can do in the Reds’ last two games.

Silva has been on the radar of Aris Thessaloniki, where he spent last season on loan, amid a lack of minutes at the City Ground.

Whether positive performances against Middlesbrough and Huddersfield Town have changed his situation remains to be seen, however.

Asked about his future after Thursday’s 1-0 defeat to the Terriers, the attacker told NottinghamshireLive: “I don’t know. I’m just enjoying now, the moment.

“We will see.

“Forest is an amazing club. It is a very big club, with a big history and top fans.

“It is a good place to be at the moment.”

Prior to coming off the bench at the Riverside Stadium on Boxing Day, Silva had not even been included in a matchday squad under Steve Cooper.

His sole run-out had come during what proved to be Chris Hughton’s final game in charge, also against Boro, back in September.

“It’s football. We have very good players in the team. The most important thing is to support each other,” the 24-year-old said.

“Even if I am not playing, I will support my teammates. And they will support me.

“I didn’t play for a long time, but the confidence my teammates have been giving me is good, and the trust from the manager.

“I just came in and did my job. I am very happy to have played.”

Silva came close to marking his full debut in the Garibaldi with a goal in the Reds’ last game of 2021.

The hosts had a glut of chances but couldn’t find the back of the net as they saw out the year with a second successive loss.

“We’re not happy, because we played very well but we didn’t get the three points. I think we should have been better in the last bit,” Silva said.

“That’s football. Sometimes you can shoot 100 times and miss 100 times, or shoot once and score - like Huddersfield did.

“We’re going to work harder for the next game. We’ve got to keep working every week to try to get the three points.

“I have been working on shooting in training. We work in the week to try to do it at the weekend. That’s what I did.

“I will work harder, so next time I will try to score.”
