Xabi Alonso speaks out on links to coaching roles at Arsenal and Man City

Former Liverpool star Xabi Alonso has dismissed speculation he is heading back to the Premier League.

Alonso is currently in charge of Real Sociedad B but has been linked with coaching roles at Arsenal and Manchester City .

Mikel Arteta, a close friend of Alonso, is in line for the Arsenal job with Alonso linked with a backroom role.

And it has also been suggested he could be on Pep Guardiola's radar to replace Arteta at Manchester City, if he departs.

But Alonso has no plans to leave his role in Spain and remains committed to Sociedad as he takes his first steps in management.

I’m at ease here, my head is only here," he told Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo .

"I have no other thoughts. No proposal has come to me and I am where I want to be. I’m very happy.

"After finishing my career as a player, being able to start another one and return to San Sebastian, to my club, seeing how things are being done, is a pleasure.

"Things are going well. I’m just starting, I’m enjoying it and it’s serving me well. When the club and I decided to work here, everything made sense. Over time you reaffirm that it was a good decision.

"I have fitted in with the players since arriving and I am working to acquire knowledge, experiences, getting it right, making mistakes, correcting and then gradually finding the way."

Arteta held talks with Arsenal over the weekend and is the frontrunner to land the job at the Emirates.

City boss Guardiola insists he gave Arteta the green light to hold talks with his assistant set to be with the squad for the EFL Cup clash with Oxford.
