X (Twitter) was down - Live updates as thousands report outages

X/Twitter banner .

Elon Musk's X appeared suffer an outage with the desktop version suffering the most. 60% of the reports were related to the browser version of X, with the rest around logging in and the mobile app.

A sudden influx of reports appeared on the outage tracking site Down Detector starting around 1:45 p.m. Pacific, spiking around 4,000 reports in the first 20 minutes.

The official developer API page, one of the ways to track X's status, never showed any issues.

The outage lasted just over one hour with the browser version working intermittently. It is not clear what knocked the site out of service, though X has suffered from multiple bugs and outages in the last few months.

Sudden spike

On Down Detector, X saw a sudden spike in reports around 1:40 p.m. Pacific quickly surpassing 4,000 reports.

No changes at X API status page

The official developer API page is not reflecting an outage.

Currently, it shows green across the board. An incident would change the system to yellow, usually with a description.

Ice cream error

I've been able to navigate X on my phone but this is what I'm seeing when I try to use the browser version.

What are you seeing?

Intermittent access

I've been able to access feeds, but it's slow going.

I've noticed a slight downturn on Down Detector but only by a couple hundred. It's not clear if its going down or if that's just a blip in the system.

Third outage in as many months

X has seemingly had at least one outage every month in 2026 including a blip just five days ago.

You can find any number of threads on Reddit and other places discussing an increasing number of bugs and issues with the app.

The service appears to work most of the time. Though it is infested with bots and a certain bias, so maybe its not working as intended.

Reports declining

On Down Detector hit a high of nearly 4,300 reports, but has been in a slow decline since 2 p.m. Pacific.

As of this posting, its sitting at 3,200 reports.

I've been able to access X regularly and the dev status page has never updated to reflect.

Comments around the outage are hard to find. Down Detector can devolve into weird trolling in its comment section and X is especially bad for unhelpful commentors.

Where are the problems?

As noted by the reports, 60% appear to be connected to the web version of X. Lesser percentages are connected to the app or logging in.

I found one person who was able to post on X saying that they're unable to post links or articles.

I tried looking up statistics about the distribution between mobile users and browser users but have yet to find any. I'll update if I do.

Reports halved

Soon after our last post, the reports on DD dropped by over half sitting around 1,200 as of this positing.

We'll keep tracking until it appears over, just in case.

Outage is over

Reports have finally dipped under 500 on Down Detector, which usually means the outage is over.

The memes in the comment section have started to disappear as well, meaning their object of distraction is no longer needed.
