X-Men star Hugh Jackman hints he might buy football club to take on Ryan Reynolds' Wrexham

Hugh Jackman has teased that he could buy Norwich City just to take on Wrexham AFC – the club co-owned by his "rival" Ryan Reynolds.

The 52-year-old made the admission to LADbible earlier this week while promoting his new film Reminiscence.

During the interview the topic of Wrexham AFC came up with the local club having been bought by Jackman's former co-star Ryan Reynolds earlier this year.

It means that the football club is now under the ownership of Reynolds and his pal Rob McElhenney – with Jackman responding to the takeover: "I'm so sorry, Wrexham."

And asked whether he could buy a club himself, purely to take on Wrexham, he said: "I'd never considered it until that last bit of that sentence. That would just be sweet."

His choice would be Premier League new boys Norwich City as he's already an honorary supporter because his mum lives in the city. It's understood that the club's owner Delia Smith once offered him the chance to invest though he turned it down, NorthWalesLive reports.

In the interview the Australian actor suggested that if he bought Norwich City the club could have a head-to-head match with Wrexham AFC in a winner-takes-all match between the actors who have had a long-running "feud'"

He said: "Let's get that game together. That'd be fun. Then maybe Ryan and I could just make it a little side wager."

The actor suggested: "Like, everything: let's just put everything that we own and love – families, kids, everything – on the line. And let's get Norwich playing Wrexham."

Reynolds, however, wasn't keen on Jackman buying a club, telling LADbible in response: "I don't think that's a wise idea. I mean, you know, Hugh has the business acumen of a slug. So I don't think that would go over very well."

The 44-year-old, who is currently promoting his new film Free Guy, added: "I would back Wrexham to beat just about anybody if you just give us a little time."
