- Former X Factor contestant Chico, real name Yousseph Slimani, has been found guilty of drink-driving at Willesden Magistrates’ Court.
- Slimani was convicted of driving a Vauxhall Astra with 40 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath on 13 December, exceeding the legal limit of 35mg.
- He told the court he consumed whisky for six hours after losing a friend to cancer, breaking his sobriety, and also took Nyquil cold and flu medicine.
- “On that fateful day, I’m teetotal, I don’t drink, and it felt like I was going out of my mind, couldn’t take it, so I drank,” he said.
- Slimani was disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay a £600 fine, a £240 surcharge, and £620 in costs.
