X Factor's Ariel Burdett was found dead in Leeds with wound to neck

An X Factor contestant who is remembered for her unique audition was found dead in Leeds with a knife wound in her neck.

Ariel Burdett, real name Amy Burdett, was found at her home in Holborn Street, on November 12.

Employees of her landlord had been called to the property to check on her eight days earlier, after concerns were raised about her welfare and they knocked at the door but it was locked and there was no answer.

An inquest at Wakefield Coroner's Court today, heard how they made further attempts to contact the 38-year-old before forcing their way into the property on November 12.

Area coroner Jonathan Leach said there was a "large stab wound" to the right side of her neck.

Paramedics were called and she was pronounced dead at 1.45pm that day.

The inquest heard a preliminary report from pathologist Dr Lisa Barker, who concluded that the cause of death was an incision wound to the neck.

West Yorkshire Police are no longer investigating the death, as there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

An inquest into her death was opened on Wednesday, November 27 and it has been adjourned until a later date.

In 2008, Ms Burdett auditioned for the X Factor reality show and her jaw-dropping audition quickly went viral.

She declared that she was a "human being, not a number", as she ripped off her contestant label and threw it on the floor.

She also told Cheryl, who was an X Factor judge at the time, she was "stupid" after she got given four nos, and after failing to make it through to the next round, she told the judges to "shove a bit of metal right up their a**".
