X Factor: Celebrity's Dermot announces shock U-turn as Simon Cowell retracts wildcard

Dermot O'Leary has announced a shock U-turn decision that there will no longer be a wildcard act re-joining the Celebrity X Factor for the competition's final.

The presenter, 46, announced the unexpected news during tonight's episode of the show and revealed there will only be four acts competing in the final.

He revealed: "There is no longer a wildcard for the acts who have been eliminated."

Shocked viewers instantly fled to Twitter to comment on the unusual news and slammed the show for being inconsistent and 'changing the rules' constantly.

One user wrote: "Simon stop changing things, u should have had everything sorted before show started. Why did you get rid of wildcard.

"This has been very disappointing series, celebrities is a good idea, and I hope it comes back next year with the original as well."

While another added: 'That Simon Cowell is just messing us about - not sure what sort of fix is going on but he owes something to the fans of X Factor to play fair with the format!"

A third commented: "This series has been great to see celebrities sing but with Simon constantly changing the rules every week it’s hard to follow!"

Another angry viewer shared: "I think what has made Celebrity X Factor so bad is how clumsy it all is. Switching and swapping rules left right and centre."

At the beginning of November, Simon revealed there 'would' be a wild card act returning for the final after band No Love Lost were sent home.

Simon changed the rules live on air and announced a wild card return for the final next week, so after tonight’s show, the final list was expected to have an additional act.

However, during the first 15 minutes of tonight's show, Dermot announced the U-turn and said the wild card decision has been cancelled.

Megan McKenna is currently a favourite to win Simon Cowell's celebrity spin-off version of the hit ITV singing competition

Last weekend saw Kevin McHale the latest singer to be axed from the competition, leaving Megan, Try Star, Jenny Ryan, V5, Vinnie Jones and Max and Harvey sing their hearts out during tonight's Movie Week.

The X Factor: Celebrity continues Saturday evenings on ITV.
