Wycombe goalkeeper Ryan Allsop reports homophobic abuse at Tranmere

Wycombe Wanderers goalkeeper Ryan Allsop reported alleged homophobic abuse to the referee during his side's 2-0 win at Tranmere Rovers on Sunday.

First-half goals from Adebayo Akinfenwa and Joe Jacobson earned Wycombe a 2-0 victory at Prenton Park to send The Chairboys three points clear at the top of League One.

However, the result was marred by an incident which saw Wycombe keeper Allsop reporting being the victim of homophobic abuse to referee John Busby at half-time, with Sky Sports reporting that the incident took place while Allsop was taking a goal kick at the Kop end.

Speaking to Sky Sports following the match, Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth said of the incident: "If that's the case, then for me there are some stupid idiots about.

"Whether it's racist or homophobic, whatever it is, we have to stamp this out.

"I have got to credit Ryan Allsop for being brave enough to stand up and say 'I'm reporting this', and that's what we are and I'll stand by him."

Tranmere boss Micky Mellon urged strong punishment for any fans found guilty of potential abuse, saying after the game: "What I do know is Tranmere is a club of great values. We know what's right and what's wrong.

"If people are proven to have done the wrong thing then they will be suitably punished as much as they can be."
