Pro Football Focus and ESPN have joined forces to use grading metrics to determine the best of the best in returning college football players. They have published a series of pieces to try and identify the best at each position group and are finishing it up with a First and Second Team.
For the First Team All PFF College Team, only one Buckeye made the cut, but he’s a good one. Offensive Guard Wyatt Davis is listed as one of the offensive linemen ESPN and PFF believe are the best returning protectors in all of college football for 2020.
Here is what Anthony Treash says about the 6-foot, 4-inch, 313-pounder out of Bellflower, CA:
“Wyatt Davis was one of the most consistent guards in the nation last year, and it was only his first full season as a starter for the Buckeyes. He produced a PFF overall grade that ranked second among qualifying guards, and he didn’t allow a single sack or QB hit.”
Yes, you heard that right, Davis didn’t allow a single sack last season. Pretty remarkable considering quarterback Justin Fields had a tendency to try and keep plays alive and go down behind the line. Speaking of Fields, he made the Second-Team behind Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence.
Here’s to hoping we get so see some college football this fall. If so, the offensive line should be in good hands with Davis and his linemates Josh Myers and Thayer Munford all deciding to return for one more go at it.
