WWE to BT Sport confirmed as Sky Sports lose UK TV rights after 30 years

BT Sport have confirmed that they have struck a deal with WWE, which sees the world's largest wrestling company end a three-decade partnership with Sky Sports.

WWE's flagship shows, Monday Night RAW and SmackDown LIVE, will both move over after an exclusive multi-year deal was signed.

From January 2020, BT Sport will show both live, as well as same day primetime re-airs of RAW on Tuesdays and SmackDown on Saturdays.

“We are incredibly excited by our new partnership with WWE. It is the most successful sports entertainment brand in the world, with a rich, fun and colorful history, loved by fans across the UK and Ireland," said Andy Haworth, Managing Director Content and Strategy, BT Consumer.

"This is a brilliant addition for our customers and we can’t wait to get going in January."

WWE and BT Sport will also partner across digital and social media platforms to create new content for fans.

WWE's monthly pay-per-views, including WrestleMania, will all be available on BT Sport Box Office - beginning with the 2020 Royal Rumble.

“We are pleased to begin an exciting new chapter for WWE in the region as we join BT Sport’s innovative offering and impressive portfolio of premium sports content,” said Stefan Kastenmüller, WWE Senior Vice President.

The move comes amid suggestions that Sky had grown frustrated with WWE showing its pay-per-views on the company’s online subscription service, the WWE network.

A subscription to the network costs just £9.99 a month, whereas Sky charged around £20 per pay-per-view, leading to unhappiness and a decision to spend big on the product had waned.

The switch comes at a time when new brand All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has inked a deal with ITV; their recent PPV, Double or Nothing, was shown on on ITV Box Office.
