WWE superstar ARRESTED over boozing - just hours before Extreme Rules 2019 pay-per-view

WWE superstar Jeff Hardy was arrested and charged with public intoxication.

Hardy, 41, was taken into custody at a family resort in South Carolina with police releasing his mug shot.

Hardy was taken to custody at the Ocean Enclave by Hilton Grand Vacations after police receive a report at around 11:15am on Saturday.

The WWE legend faces up to three months in jail and a fine of $500 (£400) if convicted of public intoxication.

His police report cited ordinance, public intoxication and impairment before he was later released.

The incident occurred just hours before WWE's next pay-per-view Extreme Rules.

Hardy, who is known for being part of The Hardy Boyz with brother Matt, is currently sidelined with a serious knee injury.

He injured himself at a live event in April with The Hardy Boyz forced to relinquished their recently-acquired championships.

Hardy also confirmed he would be undergoing surgery in June but is not back until 2020.

"I'm going to have my whole right knee repaired, everything in there that's bad, and so for six or nine months it's going to be rough,' Hardy said.

"Hopefully the first four months go extremely well."

Matt is expected to remain active on the WWE roster while his brother continues his recovery.

Among the matches at Extreme Rules is Kofi Kingston vs Samoa Joe for the WWE Championship while Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley will also renew rivalries.
