WWE's greatest Elimination Chamber matches ahead of Saudi Arabia event

WWE Elimination Chamber is just around the corner and the crowd in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, will witness the superstars compete inside the brutal structure on their shores for the very first time tomorrow afternoon.

This is one of the company's most destructive matches and we have been treated to some truly extraordinary moments inside the cage.

The very first chamber match took place 20 years ago and is now a staple on the WWE calendar.

And ahead of the eagerly-anticipated event in Jedda, Mirror Sport has picked a selection of the some of the very best matches to take place inside the intimidating Chamber.

1. The First Time - Survivor Series 2002

20 years ago, The Elimination Chamber was introduced for the first time and left an impression on the WWE Universe that will last forever.

Six of Raw’s top talents at the time, and now six names solidified in WWE legend, collided to produce a match of pure magic.

Triple H defended his World Heavyweight title against Rob Van Dam, Kane, Chris Jericho, Booker T, and Shawn Michaels, who was fresh on his return from retirement.

Van Dam and Booker T were the first two men eliminated in savage fashion. Kane burst in and dominated the cage, before receiving an eye watering combination of a Superkick from Michaels, a Pedigree from Triple H, and a Lionsault from Jericho, that saw him eliminated.

Michaels then delivered Sweet Chin Music to both Jericho and bitter rival Triple H, winning the World Heavyweight Championship as confetti and the crowd’s cheers rained down on him.

2. Title Swapping Edge - No Way Out 2009

In 2009, The Rated R Superstar, Edge, kicked off No Way Out defending his WWE Championship Title against Triple H, The Undertaker, Jeff Hardy, Big Show and Vladimir Kozlov.

However, to the crowd’s equal delight and disbelief, Edge was eliminated within minutes by Jeff Hardy, meaning the Title was up for grabs and eventually won by Triple H after an epic slugfest with The Undertaker.

But the night was not over for Edge as his antics helped to make 2009’s chamber match stick in fans’ minds as one of the greatest nights ever.

Later that night, John Cena was gearing up to defend his World Heavyweight Championship Title. Just as Kofi Kingston was preparing to enter the Elimination Chamber, out came Edge who attacked him and stole his position in the match.

Fans couldn’t believe their eyes as a rageful Edge, still seething from the loss earlier on, eliminated his arch-rival Cena.

The first iconic Edge vs Mysterio head to head ensued, with fans on the edge of their seats with suspense until The Rated R Superstar speared Mysterio, and became the first superstar to lose the WWE title and win the World Heavyweight championship on the same night.

3. Spears and 619s - Elimination Chamber 2011

A year when many storylines came together to erupt in one ruthless Elimination Chamber.

Edge started the match with Rey Mysterio, defending his World Heavyweight Championship that he’d only won back a few days earlier. The match kicking off this way gave fans a sense of deja vu.

Chaos ensued and the cage took no prisoners until just Edge and Rey were left.

The WWE legends traded spears and 619s with equal brutality, leaving nothing in the ring, before The Rated R Superstar delivered an epic spear that would see him become the new champion and seal his spot at WrestleMania 27 as a result.

4 . An Unexpected Champion - Elimination Chamber 2017

Having just won a record-equalling 16th world title, John Cena confidently entered the Elimination Chamber as defending champion against The Miz, Baron Corbin, AJ Styles, Bray Wyatt and Dean Ambrose.

Much like 2009, a jaw dropping and unexpected early elimination for John Cena from Wyatt sent crowds wild, confirming that there would be a new champion leaving the new and improved structure that evening.

AJ Styles took on Wyatt in an unusual match up that saw Wyatt eventually counter Styles' Phenomenal Forearm with a Sister Abigail.

Wyatt walked away as a brand new WWE champion for the first time, giving fans something they never thought they’d see at the end of the night.

5. The Kofi Show, Elimination Chamber 2019

In 2019’s fans expected the now bold, brash and egotistical Daniel Bryan to retain his WWE title in the Elimination Chamber ahead of WrestleMania 35.

Five days before the Elimination Chamber of 2019, a six-man Gauntlet Match between Daniel Bryan, AJ Styles, Jeff Hardy, Randy Orton, Samoa Joe and Mustafa Ali decided who would enter the chamber last. However, due to a last minute devastating injury, Ali had to forfeit with Kofi Kingston as his replacement. Kingston delivered a breakout performance despite losing to Bryan who retained his title.

Inside the steel cage, Styles, Hardy and Samoa Joe were eliminated, leaving Orton, Bryan and Kingston as the final three. Shockingly, Kingston interrupted an RKO from Orton, catching him with a Trouble in Paradise instead and eliminating The Viper.

Despite Bryan retaining his Title in the end, the roar from the crowd as Kofi eliminated Orton will give you goosebumps to this day, as will their chants as his New Day partners Big E and Xavier Woods consoled him after the match. Ultimately, this was Kofi’s night and he would go on to beat Bryan for the title at WrestleMania two months later..

WWE fans have witnessed some true epics down the years, and they will hope they enjoy another one in 2022.

Bobby Lashley will defend his WWE title against Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins, AJ Styles, Riddle and Austin Theory inside the Elimination Chamber.

And Bianca Belair, Doudrop, Liv Morgan, Nikki A.S.H, Rhea Ripley and Alex Bliss will step inside the structure to compete for the Raw women's title shot at WrestleMania.

The action kicks off at 5pm tomorrow afternoon on the WWE Network, you don't want to miss it!
