WWE legend confirms WrestleMania 35 match in doubt as he posts nasty injury video

WWE legend Rey Mysterio has admitted he might not be able to challenge Samoe Joe for the United States Championship at WrestleMania.

The veteran high flyer issued a statement on Instagram in which he confirmed he suffered an ankle injury in a match against Baron Corbin on Raw.

The 44-year-old also attached a video clip of the exact moment when the incident occurred, as he jumped off the top turnbuckle and landed nastily.

Mysterio said: "Suffered an injury on my right ankle this past Monday night on Raw against @baroncorbinwwe. Praying to be ready for Mania this Sunday!"

The ex-World Heavyweight Champion received messages of support from fellow WWE superstars, former opponents on the independent scene, and fans.

Another aerial expert, Ricochet, commented: "Man, sorry to hear. But if ANYONE can make a come back and be good for Mania this Sunday it's you."

Meanwhile, the Olympic Gold Medallist Kurt Angle, who is booked to face Corbin in his retirement match at WrestleMania 35 on Sunday, said: "Prayers to you Rey."

Puerto Rican 205 Live star Lince Dorado also showed some love for the Mexican American, real name Óscar Gutiérrez, stating: "You got this bro."

Former Divas Champion Trish Straus posted heart emojis in support, while ex-WWE superstar Chris Masters said: "Sheeeeet!!! Hope it’s not too bad brother."

Meanwhile, IMPACT Wrestling's Brian Cage said: "Damn man. That's awful. I'm so sorry to see this. I hope you're good this Sunday my man. I'm Sure you'll make it happen. I'll say some prayers 4 ya."

The status of Mysterio's U.S. Championship match against Samoa Joe at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey is currently unknown.

A statement on WWE.com read: "Rey Mysterio suffered an ankle injury, WWE.com has learned.

"The injury was sustained at the hands of Baron Corbin, during their match on Raw Monday night when Mysterio was standing up for his friend, Kurt Angle.

"Because of the injury, Mysterio was forced out of his previously scheduled match with Andrade on SmackDown LIVE.

"Mysterio will continue to be evaluated as WrestleMania draws closer."

The cruiserweight king pinned Joe in a tag team match on the March 12 edition of SmackDown, which led to him earning the title opportunity at the Show of Shows.

The Master of the 619's career is the stuff of legend, having wowed with WCW in the 1990s, before he joined Vince McMahon's company in 2002.

The pioneer defied his size and went on to capture the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in 2006, having previously won the Royal Rumble.
