WWE 2K26 Fans Are Asking For A Wrestling Game, Not A Crossover Showcase

WWE 2K fans are already buzzing about the next entry in the wrestling franchise, which is due in the not-so-distant future. It’s clear what the community demands: a real wrestling-focused game and not another crossover fiasco.

Fans Push Back On Crossovers

Fans are pushing back hard against the idea of more crossovers. SmackDown Hotel called out exactly what’s on everyone’s mind by warning that WWE 2K26 could go down the same road as WWE 2K20. Leaning into Mortal Kombat or Dragon Ball-style crossover content, they’re going to lose the core in-ring wrestling experience.

When 2K20 threw in all those extras, a large chunk of the community felt like the actual wrestling got shoved aside for a cheap spectacle. On top of that, 2K20 was broken beyond belief and ranks among the worst wrestling games ever released. Now that 2K26 is set for an early 2026 launch, long-time fans are already sounding the alarm, worrying if history will repeat itself.

Across forums and social feeds, the message is the same. Fans want 2K26 to get back to authentic wrestling modes, introduce better creation tools, and a single-player experience that holds its own. Players are asking for deeper season-style stories, more control over move creation, and fewer grind-heavy modes like MyFaction.

For a lot of players, the dream is a game that lets them relive classic WWE careers, dive into stipulation-heavy rivalries, and skip the random non-WWE guest fighters.

Balancing Fun Crossovers With Core Gameplay

It’s not that everyone hates crossover content altogether. Fans worry that such content takes over and outshines the signature WWE classics. Community creators fill the gap with fantasy fighters on their own, and fans point out that official development should prioritize responsive gameplay, solid online performance, and sandbox tools.

Now that Visual Concepts has the next game in motion, it’s up to them to prove that WWE 2K26 is a great wrestling sim first. Anything else should just be the icing on the cake, not the cake itself.

Overall, we hope that 2K focuses on improving the gameplay instead of filling the game with cosmetic DLCs. While fans appreciate playing with iconic wrestlers, gameplay is where the game needs the most work.
